How to Replace the Exhaust Manifold on a Ford F-150
The Ford F-Series has been around since 1948 with tons of body styles and performance options available. When it comes to F-150's that were manufactured from 2001- 2003, as well as the 2004 Heritage editions, replacing the exhaust manifold can be a tricky process. For 4.6L and 5.4L engines, removing and installing a new exhaust manifold entails the same easy procedure. Keep reading for the step by step process of removing the exhaust manifold on your Ford.
REMOVING THE OLD MANIFOLD:
1. First, you want to raise the truck making sure the support is secure. Start with taking off the front wheel and opening the molding on vehicles with a 4 x 4 option. You need to unbolt and remove your front fender splash guard before beginning.

2. Next, you have to remove the nut and brake booster vacuum hose, as well as the bracket. Then you want to locate the EGR valve tube and remove that as well.

3. After you loosen the nuts, take the exhaust manifold and remove it from the engine. Take off the attached gasket and throw it away. Clear away all the debris left over from the gasket on the manifold surface and keep your eye out for any damages.
INSTALLING THE NEW MANIFOLD:
4. Carefully place the exhaust manifold gasket in the right position. Make sure it it is directly above the manifold. You should probably install the nuts by hand.
5. Then you want to tighten the nuts in sequencing, being sure to alternate sides. Next, torque the nuts in three different passes to about 18 foot pounds. After that, carefully install the catalytic converter.
6. Before proceeding to install the electrical connector, put in place the differential pressure feedback EGR system into the 4.6L engine. Beginning at the top, hand-tighten the fittings and torque the nuts to 26 to 33 pounds.
7. Proceed to install both of the fittings into the 5.4L engine. Beginning at the top, hand-tighten the nuts first. Again torque the nuts to about 30 to 44 pounds. Then reconnect the differential pressure feedback system.
8. Re-install the brake booster vacuum and hook the bracket and bolt back onto the engines. You may want to replace the front fender splash guard and/or the front wheel opening on 4 x 4 models.
9. Afterwards, lower your vehicle carefully, start your engine, and begin examining for any exhaust leaks.
How to Replace the Exhaust Manifold on a Ford F-1502000 Toyota Camry CE 2.2L 4-cylinder DOHC PO401 (1 of 2) Video Clips. Duration : 1.37 Mins.2000 Toyota Camry CE 4 cylinder 2.2L DOHC 69,000 miles (not a CA machine) MIL engine running about 2 months for 2 days, then left. I replaced the valve cover gasket, the mechanic who served as my car had already complained. I had no problems after that. Last week, the MIL came back. I took it to my mechanic. This was diagnosed and advised PO401 now instead of the catalyst. He wanted to say, everything else looks good. Since then, the MIL has been turned off for about 6Days, and now must face again today. PO401 seems to be connected to the Internet with the EGR system and I could not understand how the catalyst is attached. My car is still running very smooth, no ping, no problem. However, the low gas mileage ~ 25 miles per gallon on the highway. It 'was not always so. Here's a video of the sites I looked at the proposal for a "coherent travel a short distance," as one of the reasons PO401. I have my car to go to the office (2.5 km) for about 7 monthsNow I do 10 miles to 2008th office. Question: Can be a catalyst for PO401? Here I am assuming that my mechanic has read and report to the OBD code correctly. 2. What could be the problem? 3. He is mentioned ~ $ 600 for the change of catalyst. Is the price right? How long should I wait?

EGR and Electric Vacuum Solenoids
Electric vacuum solenoids perform an environmentally and economically important function in the engines of most cars.
First off, the fact that electric vacuum solenoids prevent unburned fuel particles and several other forms of gaseous and particulate waste that engines produce from escaping into the air and thence to the atmosphere means that cars without them are bound to leave you with a very swollen-looking carbon footprint.
Egr Valve
Secondly, the fact that the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems of cars that require electric vacuum solenoids or switching solenoids raise fuel efficiency is a great boon to just about anyone these days. With fuel prices soaring higher by the day, every little bit, even teeny-weeny particles and gas-huffs, really does count.

EGR valves work by the sucking up of exhaust gases before they can leave the car. Very frequently, they're activated by an increase in the vacuum produced by the engine, a factor that's directly proportional to how hard the engine is exerting itself. When the valve's transduction mechanism gets activated in this way, the electric vacuum solenoid is also activated, and the valve opens, allowing exhaust gases to return to the intake manifold, which normally has the pleasing side effect of cooling the cylinder.
The switching solenoid at work in an EGR system is the same as any other solenoid - an unimpressive-looking spool of engine wire (often wound up to a thousand times) which, when it has a current passed through it, produces an electromagnetic field. This field will, depending on the direction in which the wire coils, either produce a suctioning, 'pulling' force or a repulsive, 'pushing' force on any object placed within it.
Solenoids just like the electric vacuum solenoid appear in several other parts of your car. There's one connected to your car's ignition and, when you turn the key, for the car to grumble to life the starter solenoid has to move two heavy contacts together. When those contacts meet, they allow electricity to chart a straight course from the car's battery to the engine, thus starting the car.
The principle in operation with starter solenoids is similar in some ways to how most solenoid valves work, the only difference being that, where valves are concerned, you're dealing with the flow of liquid or gas, not electricity, and that often the movement of the solenoid is to remove it from being a barrier to the flow, not to bring two conduits together. Simply described, the 'pin' that blocks the secondary conduit between the pressurized central chamber and the outlet of the valve is actually the armature of the solenoid. When removed, pressure is immediately reduced in the central chamber, allowing the burgeoning pressure pushing against the diaphragm blocking the central chamber from the entry conduit to push the diaphragm up. This then allows for a straight flow of air or liquid to run from the inlet to the outlet of the valve. As soon as the armature pin is replaced, pressure builds up again in the central chamber, and the force of the fluid allowed to flow through the tiny hole in the centre of the diaphragm builds up sufficiently to push the diaphragm back into place, closing the valve.

How To Get Your Vehicle to Pass an Emissions Test
Clean air is a great idea, but impacts us in many unforeseen ways. When politicians pass emissions test laws, this created a requirement for drivers to have cars in good enough shape to pass these tests which are intended to lower vehicle emissions. These emissions tests are more popular in the more polluted states, like California. Currently (2010), 18 states and the District of Columbia require safety tests of some sort. In some states, these inspections also are a general safety test of items like brakes, lights, and windshield wipers. I will not list all participating states here as the participating states may change. If you live in a emissions testing state, you know it. Many people think that all pollution comes from older cars. That is not necessarily true.
A well maintained older car can have cleaner exhaust and lower emissions than a five year old car that has never been maintained. The key is to properly maintain your car, and be cautious with major modifications. Some modifications that can generate close scrutiny include things like exhaust modifications to remove the catalytic converters. Exhaust leaks can also cause a failure. One of the main causes of high emission levels is a car that is out of time; simply having the timing set correctly is a great first step. Non-sealing gas caps can cause issues by letting gas vapor escape; this is checked in some states. The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve has to be working well. The EGR valve routes some of your exhaust back into the manifold to basically re-burn it to lower emissions. The oxygen sensor on most newer cars can also cause a failure if faulty. The oxygen sensor measures how much oxygen is in the exhaust and reports that information back to the engine Computer. If the sensor is not working correctly, the engine Computer cannot properly manage the engine.
Egr Valve
Many of these sensors and items will generate a check engine light in the car, so make sure your car is fixed and does not have a check engine light visible. The catalytic converter is the most expensive item, most likely, so check everything else first. So, your plan of attack should be; make sure there is no check engine light on. Make sure that if you have any major engine or exhaust modifications that they are emissions test capable. Have the timing set properly. Check the gas cap. I have also read that filling up with 10 percent ethanol where it is available is also a good idea. Make sure you drive the car until it is warm first because the catalytic converters need to be hot to work. A good fuel additive can also help; the Amsoil Performance Improver fuel additive is formulated to reduce hydrocarbons up to 15 percent, and reduce carbon monoxide up to 26 percent, and reduce nitrous oxides up to 17 percent, all for around ten dollars.

Each car has it that the late 60's. The EGR system. What is it? What is this? How can I ditch? All questions are answered in this video. He shows me how to delete the EGR system in a 4AC. Side note: The picture on EGR bolts are 12mm. I said, 14 cause an accident before this video I was on one side with a 14 working days.
